My position abt copyright is simple - it is absolute evil. THere was a time maybe when ppl thought that it helps artists, book authors etc, but instead of helping society it actually making big repressive mechanism , where freedom is lost  and ppl can sue everyone for anything, and put in jail everybody. If this is a price for this - screw it. If some authors cant write a book without money than maybe we really dont need that book at all(its good if author is payed , but if he asks abt repressions, cause he cant make money , I really won`t read his books, all good books are free anyway thx god)

So almost all my works marked as CC licence(some are copyrighted for some companies >__< bad bad)  and u can use them freely. Its good to have some signature that pictures are mine after all ,but i really dont be upset if u just use them without it. (of course i will be upset if u make money with it cause the point is - money = evil)

some links for u guys

ps and of course I suppose everyone who post here, dont have any "illegal programs", music files, (maybe some pics from deviantart that u save on HDD without asking author??),  or maybe u playing music with your guitar on the street(some copyrighted music? public performance?) Or maybe u took a picture of some Building on the street??(or some man, without asking him?)      test youself then post

не задумывался в последнее время о том, сколько денег мне приносят\принесут мои умения. есть надо, конечно, а в остальном гораздо интереснее учиться, имхо.

спасибо за мысли!

Also, the only response I have to " If some authors cant write a book without money than maybe we really dont need that book at all" is.... Doesn't a writer deserve to get paid for his hard work just as much as you deserve to get paid for making art?

Writers need to eat just as much as everyone else.

I can understand feeling annoyed with big corporations who draw out the copyright time for far longer then it should ever go (like almost a century after the original creator of the work has died. Geez!)

But copyright is INCREDIBLY important and a necessary evil to protect artists, writers, musicians, and other creatives who need to protect their work from getting exploited by others. Hell, I'm sure we've all seen countless instances in the past where corporations and other groups have outright ignored copyright, stolen work from artists straight off the internet, and used it for profit.

And we've all hopefully also seen where these cases were frozen in their tracks by the sheer number of Cease and Desist notices slammed in their faces by the artists they stole from. Without Copyright, we wouldn't be able to protect our work, we wouldn't be able to file a Cease and Desist or take folks to court for damages when people exploit us. Our current Copyright is not a perfect thing, because it still does not give small-time folks enough power to stop big corporations from taking advantage of them in a lot of cases, but it's better then nothing.

I'm sorry - I don't really understand your point with this journal.
Simply put; as artists and designers, we have a right to protect the works we create, to stop other less talented individuals attempting to fraudulently make a profit from our hard work.
I have nothing against creative commons, as this can benefit artists by way of good exposure, as long as the concept of creative commons is upheld by all parties involved.
To say copyright is absolute evil (and for that matter money = evil) is sheer nonsense! We all live in a world where currency is a way of life. Some people have lots of it, whereas most do not. But we all need money to survive - FACT!! (unless, of course, you live in a secluded village in a rain-forest, or are part of some obscure nomad tribe in a desert or something).
I have a paid job and most of the artwork I create is for personal pleasure, but I do enjoy the odd commission here and there, and when somebody does pay me for artwork, it reinforces my belief in my skills and gives me the satisfaction that there is VALUE to my work.
I could probably go on, but I won't.

It`s easy. You do the work. You should get the money for it. Copyright in it's basic sense ensures this. I don't think it is bad if people use my art for noncomercial stuff, but it's not that easy. Most work you produce, which is tied to copyrights, is also tied to a company or at least a certain client, so you can't just use that art again elsewhere without lowering the worth of it for this client. And it has happened before and will happen again. Scenario: Guy goes to your site, downloads a really good artwork, and trys to sell it elsewhere. Maybe he has better merchandising experience or so and some day you notice that someone else is earning a ton of money with your art, getting the fame, pretending that he has drawn it by himself and so on. If you had the copyrights clearly you can now burn this idiot down. I would do so.

They even copy whole Artistsites and claim the stuff to be their own... that is so goddamn crazy
